Kerala’s internal electricity generation increases 50% in 2021

Generating stations in Kerala generated 10408.9 MU of Electricity in 2021
registering an increase of 50% from the total generation of 6944.8 MU last year. Total
generation from Hydro Plants including small Hydro was 9913.6 MU. 153 MU of
Electricity was generated from Thermal stations in the state. Wind farms in Kerala
generated 132. 1 MU and Solar Plants generated 210.2 MU .

POWER EXCHANGE TRANSACTION INCREASES DESPITE LOW DEMAND

The volume of electricity transacted through Power Exchanges in India during the period from April to July 2020 registered an increase of 8.4% compared to the same period in 2019. On analyzing the details available in the Monthly Market Monitoring Reports published by CEA it is observed that this increase has occurred despite a 13% decrease in total electrical energy supplied in the country during this period.

Power consumption in India reached the level prior to the lockdown during the 4th stage of lockdown. Despite this, the consumption in May 2020 is 15% lower than the consumption in May last year. 33.5% increase in power consumption in the Northern Region due to the heatwave and ease of lockdown conditions had resulted in the overall increase in power consumption in the country. The consumption in all other 4 regions of the country is lower than that during the pre-lock down period.

India’s Power Consumption increases as lock down eases

India’s Power Consumption increases as lock down eases

The daily average power consumption in India touched 3200 Million Units during the 3rd stage of the lock down which ended on 17th May 2020, compared to 3522 MU prior to the lock down period in the third week of March 2020. The fall in consumption during the third stage is 9% only. The power consumption fell 22% during the 1st stage and 18% during 2nd stage of lock down declared to check the spread of COVID-19 pandemic in our country. The lock down was prevailing with effect from 25/03/2020. The first stage ended on 14th April 2020 and 2nd stage ended on 3rd May 2020. The increase in power consumption during second and third stages of lock down is mainly due to the relaxations of lock down conditions.
